Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology (SVNIT), The institute was established as Sardar Vallabhbhai Regional College of Engineering & Technology in 1961 and was upgraded by Government of India as a National Institute of Technology on 4th October, 2002. The institute is one of the pioneering institutions of India and has contributed many outstanding engineers in India and abroad. The Institute now offers 11 B. Tech. Degree Programs, 21 M. Tech. Degree Programs, 03 Five Years Integrated M.Sc. Degree Programs in Chemistry, Mathematics & Physics, 01 Five Years Integrated B.Tech and M.Tech Degree Program, 01 Master of Business Administration in Business Analytics program, and Ph.D. program in all disciplines. The institute has an excellent placement record with a number of top ranking companies visiting the campus every year.
The Department of Mechanical Engineering came into existence in the year 1961. The department has qualified and dedicated faculty members with the specialization in various areas. At present, the department is conducting a UG program (Mechanical Engg.), five PG programs (Mechanical Engg., Turbo Machines, Manufacturing Engineering, CAD-CAM, and Thermal Systems Design) and a research program leading to Ph.D. degree.
Surat is a top ranking industrial city of India. It is well known worldwide for textiles, zari and diamond industries. Several large scale industries and establishments are located in the city (e.g. RIL, L&T, ESSAR, NTPC, etc.). The city is situated on the main western railway route between Vadodara and Mumbai. Direct flights operate daily between Delhi and Surat.
The 2nd international conference on “Recent Advancements in Design and Manufacturing (RADM-2026)” is scheduled to be held during January 09-10, 2026. The objective of this conference is to bring together experts from academic institutions, industries and research organizations and professional engineers for sharing of knowledge, expertise and experience in the emerging trends related to design engineering, machine design, manufacturing and their applications. The conference will feature plenary and keynote addresses, followed by parallel technical sessions. Keynote lectures will be delivered by distinguished international and national experts, setting the stage by introducing the central themes of the conference. Each parallel session will open with an invited talk on a specialized topic, followed by presentations of contributed research papers. Prospective authors from industries, academic institutions, R&D organizations, and practicing engineers across various engineering disciplines are invited to contribute papers.
IIW-India-PDEU Welding Research & Development Centre (IPWRDC)
The Indian Institute of Welding (IIW-India) and Pandit Deendayal Energy University
(PDEU), Gandhinagar signed MoU on 17th of August 2023 to establish IIW - India - PDEU
Welding Research & Development Centre (IPWRDC).
Purposes of the MoU as follows:
To carry out research in the field of welding technology/materials.
Provide facility for research work for students of B. Tech. /M. Tech. /PhD level.
Support the industry in solving welding-related problems.
Better industry and academia interactions.
Develop new welding processes and consumables for new grades of materials.
Research Areas:
Additive manufacturing using welding processes, Welding of additively manufactured
components, Advanced Welding Processes include -- Friction Welding of dissimilar metal
pipe, Friction Stir Welding of similar and dissimilar metals, Friction stir processing for
super plasticity and surface composites, Friction surfacing, Narrow Gap Welding- using
solid, Flux cored and metal cored wire, Hybrid Welding, Activated flux GTAW/GMAW;
Resistance welding- spot, Ultrasonic welding, Welding of hybrid joints (metal-plastics).

Fusion Welding Processes: GMAW, GTAW, A-TIG welding, Resistance welding, Wire arc
additive manufacturing, Plasma and gas-cutting, Laser Welding/Cutting/Cleaning.
Solid-
state welding processes: Friction Welding, Friction Stir Welding, Friction surfacing,
Ultrasonic Welding.
Testing and characterization: Metallurgical microscope, Micro
hardness, Pin on disk wear testing, Abrasion testing, Hot tensile testing.
The conference will be conducted in ONLINE MODE. Review Papers will be considered for oral presentations only.
